Standing Firm

If you like helicopters then you've probably seen Black Hawk Down. Trust the Americans to paint a positive on what was a disastrous operation. One of the scenes was however true and is perhaps the most courageous actions I've ever heard of.

Randy Shughart and Gary Gordon were two snipers part of Delta Force in an Apache and volunteered to set up a perimeter after another unit was shot down. The video tells it better than I ever could. The pilot they went to save was taken hostage but eventually released.

This is for somebody having a rough time at present.

Face what's before you .. and stand firm

To who ever the post is for and for SGT. Smilie dont let the bastards grind you down it is easily done to us in the job. If it was not for the occasional days where you feel you made a difference would anyone o what we do? And put up with what we have to?

A case of a fine sentiment improved by a subtle qualification, SoC.

Perhaps many an old pitchfork in cobwebs anticipates that long awaited dusting and sharpening....

My favourite mantra, "NEVER give up". Heroics of the first order. Brings a lump to my throat. But America never ventured back into Africa in such force, to this day. Heroes let down by politicians... Nice one SoC!

I have often read your blog SoC, and haven't left a comment before, but I second the first comment left by "anon". I have been "standing firm" since I was a child special constable "whistle-blower", survivor and witness of unspeakable crimes. Although I certainly HAVE spoken out in the past and it has been swept under the carpet, time and time again, by government and vested interests.

The stress that I have endured over the past 5 YEARS, of "standing firm" has been beyond belief, unbearable and cruel. I nearly gave up recently, which is just what the evil gits want me to do. But a message on a blog, from a fellow survivor, gave me hope and the will to not give up, not now, NOT EVER. I do feel a bit like Frodo carrying the dreaded "ring" into Mordor, exhausted by the strain of it all.

So than you SoC, for your post and the wise words, whoever they were meant for, I shall be encouraged by them too. I will stand firm, in faith. I will NOT let the Ba$tard$ grind me down........
